nicolas belligoli alias mtd is one of the founders of the label sonntag morgen. he expresses and develops a techno / dub with dark, melancholic and industrial influences. his melodies are sharp and give a new and powerful rhythm. he was noted for the quality of his release (affin record, abstract animal, arts digital...) especially for his work on nachtstrom schallplatten in 2015 (“substances & perceptions” double lp).

born in sao paulo to a deeply religious family, laercio has been around music all his life - amidst the challenges of daily life, his adventist parents would whip out all sorts of instruments whenever the situation would allow it, introducing a young and curious mind to a wide range of musical expressions. it should come as no surprise, then, that our hero quickly felt at home with notes and bars, choosing the flute as his first weapon of choice which he eagerly studied from the age of seven. even later non-musical career choices always reflected an infatuation with the world of sounds, like his stint as a capoeira teacher, combining martial arts, acrobatics and dance. with such a multi-faceted background in music, the inevitable tinkering with synthesizers and other means of electronic sound generation was rather a question of time than one of ambition, and sure enough we find laercio roaming the parties of the mid-noughties, absorbing the unique melange of styles and scales that inform club culture to this day. in stark contrast to most other rave inductees at the time, however, he never wanted to become a dj: his area of expertise is the performance, not the collecting and curating of other people s releases, and it shows in the unusual fact that laercio has held club residencies as a live electronic musician in venues like sao paulo s the edge without ever so much as touching a record. in these release l_cio has worked with d.o.c. mastermind gui boratto. and the result is music for the dancefloor.

the return of wasserfall to the workshop brings a bunch of well-informed, beautifully executed & idiosyncratic tunes that represent our man so well. charlie, the opener is kind of oddball, jazzed out, abstract house with a strange charlie parker homage. stoned mumbles murk around ideally tuned rimshots and double bass flecks that cheekily plod about sounding like a stumbling one man band.

fancy humans leigh morgan has been knocking around a while, running urban torque recordings for the best part of a decade throughout the naughties. having reached a satisfactory level of noodle shinnery on his baldy bonce, he has put down the scalp polish and finally started making music. project pickle is his second solo ep. project pickle includes three original tracks, nailing his colours to the mast, dilly of a pickle begins with a clear indication of pickle preference, pie on the sly the accompanying dish, and almost champion a nod to the ultimate disappointment in food related release punnery. we asked chocky to come on board for remix duties, once he d told us which was his favourite pickle, his answer we ll take to our graves. chocky has been winning plaudits for his deep dubby jazzy grooves through artful division, nature soul music, roots for bloom and audio parallax etc, and here he s on great form with, er, a deep dubby jazzy re-imaging, lovely stuff.

firstly, a huge thanks to everyone for supporting us so far - 2016 has seen the dext label continuing to go from strength to strength, with our callahan and mella dee ep s backed with remixes from hodge and endian which have been been super well received. now for the third ep of the year from our resident comedian bodyjack. bodyjack has been an integral part of dext since he remixed dubspeeka on our 2nd release and headlined our label takeover of privilege in ibiza last summer. we are very excited about his return to the label with this 3-tracker (and our first full solo artist ep!), and we think you re going to dig this... the title track cobra effect is one of those tracks you aren t going forget in a hurry. intense and brooding, we are hard-pushed to categorise this, but layers of sinister bass coupled with dark, driving snares and eerie synth work culminate masterfully, making this the perfect dext track. hydra effect lifts the vibe with a straight up peak-time house jam with a sting in the tail. a raw-but-infectious bassline winds along under bodyjack s signature killer drum programming, before blasting off with something you aren t going to expect. rounding the ep off is slowine effect: a proper dancehall workout (reminiscent of bodyjack s earlier work) and a real cross-genre party starter. the most upbeat of the 3 tracks, this again takes all the elements of what we love about the music from the past and cleverly works them into something special for the rave. and that s not all for bodyjack on dext this year - he will be back with a one-off ltd record called -hot shot-, backed with a very special remixer...but more on that soon!

this is the second episode of our various artists serie. the fallen (a collaboration between plural (james johnson) and fbk (kevin kennedy)) opens the e.p. with interference, a fast paced killer hypnotic dance floor friendly dub track: they create a sound that is unique, fluid and extremely danceable. philippe petit follows with exposed, a stripped down, bleepy bass-heavy rhythmic piece of techno. julixo brings us own structure, an aggressive jackin techno track leading to a warm synth line that will leave nobody indifferent. terrence dixon closes the e.p. with odd numbers, a track that only him can do. sub bass melodic techno reduced to the max: ace!
